A practical guide to planning your WoW Forever roster
Forever Journal is a free WoW Forever character planner growing toward a community hub for guides, shared builds, and player discoveries. Today, turn scattered ideas into a roster you can compare and refine. Keep names, races, classes, talent builds, professions, and personal goals together without needing a spreadsheet. Whether you are choosing your first main or organizing several alts, start with the character you most want to play and build outward from that idea.
Give every character a purpose
Choose New character and enter a main name, with an optional secondary name while you explore possibilities. Selecting a class reveals its available specialization choices. Faction selection narrows the race list, while choosing a race tied to one faction updates that choice. Add a role, priority, and stage so a finished character does not get confused with an idea you are still considering.
Use the notes field for decisions that numbers cannot explain: a preferred playstyle, a backstory, a leveling partner, or a reason to try healing instead of damage. Keep alternative names in the shortlist rather than creating a separate dossier for every spelling. Duplicate a character when you want to compare a genuinely different concept.
Compare talent builds at a realistic level
Each dossier includes two independent talent plans. Choose a planning level, select a talent tree, and use the plus and minus controls to allocate ranks. The calculator checks the available point budget and prerequisite talents. A leveling plan can differ from your eventual endgame build, so keep your current level separate from the level you are planning toward.
Use the linked reference calculator when you need detailed spell effects. The journal identifies its talent-data snapshot because game updates can change talents or requirements. Treat a saved allocation as a plan to review, not a guarantee that it matches every future patch. Main-spec and off-spec labels help describe your intent; they do not spend talent points automatically.
Track Legacy progress across your account
Open Account Legacy to record milestones you have already earned. Record the highest qualifying level for each class and the highest qualifying crafting skill, then enter your completed challenge counts. Multiple alts reaching the same milestone should not create duplicate points. A character you merely intend to level should not be counted as an earned achievement.
The earned budget is shared across your roster, but each character has its own perk allocation. Use a dossier's Legacy section to choose benefits that suit that character's activities. If you reduce recorded progress, review any allocation flagged as over budget. This keeps your account's actual progress distinct from your plans for the next alt.
Plan professions and camp contributions together
Enter profession skill levels in the camping section to see eligible starter contributions. Camping coverage summarizes what each character could bring when you play it. Think of your alts as alternative providers: they do not become simultaneous members of one campsite. A useful roster can cover different needs without requiring every character to learn the same professions.
Choose the expected camp capacity and features, then mark any conflicting class buffs. The preview identifies benefits that cannot stack with those buffs and distinguishes planned benefits from those received after resting. Level-dependent bonuses appear as ranges rather than invented exact values. Check the in-game requirements before relying on a particular setup.
A community compendium is on the horizon
Good adventures are worth sharing. We are planning a Community Compendium for WoW Forever profession guides, leveling routes, raid advice, and inventive character builds. The aim is to bring practical community knowledge alongside your roster, with attached builds you can preview before applying them to a character.
Guest contributions and optional member profiles are planned, along with helpful votes, clear update dates, and game-version labels to help you judge each guide. Whether you favor a reliable healer or an unusual off-meta experiment, there should be room to share what works for you. The greyed-out Community Compendium button reserves its place in the sidebar; publishing and community features are coming later.
Frequently asked questions
- Where are my characters saved?
- In this browser on this device. Saving a dossier does not upload it to a game account or synchronize it with another browser.
- How do I move or protect my roster?
- Use Export backup regularly. Import the JSON file when moving devices or website addresses. Imports add characters, so importing the same backup repeatedly can create duplicates.
- Does the journal reserve names or connect to Blizzard?
- No. It is an independent planning tool. Check name availability, game rules, and current build details in the game before committing to a character.
